From Doctor's Orders to Wastewater Heroes: Revolutionizing Boston's Sanitation in 1880

🚿💡 Did you know that taking a bath in Boston used to require a doctor's order?

In 1844, city leaders passed an ordinance due to the overwhelming amount of sanitary flows in the wastewater system, which only got worse with the invention of the flush toilet.

But thanks to public works heroes George Waring and Benezette Williams, the first separate sewer systems were designed in 1880, revolutionizing the way we manage and treat wastewater. 🌊🛠️

Thanks to them, we can now take a bath without a doctor's note!  🛁🩺
